Merekara Wines - 'l'Insolite' Sauvignon Blanc 2022

“VITICULTURE AND WINEMAKING 

The grapes for this wine are growing near the Awatere river and this block is one of the stoniest areas of the Brêloft vineyard. We only hand-picked the bunches who were exposed to the hotter afternoon sun, which gives us ripe and intense flavours. In the winery, the grapes were whole bunch pressed and the juice was cold settled overnight. The very next day the juice was transferred into barrel where both the fermentations took place in. We decided not to filter the wine before bottling so we keep all the goodies together. 

TASTING NOTES 

The colour is pale straw to lemon with a faint haziness from no filtration at bottling. Fresh grapefruit, citrus, tropical fruit and herbal aromas in the nose with a subtle leesy note. The palate is complex and vibrant with tart citrus fruit and tropical flavours, a nice grippy acidity, fine oak and mineral textural elements all rounded out with a full bodied creamy mouthfeel.”
