Did you know… When we were searching for boutique producers around New Zealand we found Two Buckets website around page 10 of Google (best kept secret out there!).

About

This incredible micro-boutique vineyard is owned and managed by Duncan and Barbi McFarlane, with the help of their sheep-shearing family. The very first Pinot Noir grapes were planted in 2002, uniquely on the lawns of a premier housing site in Wanaka. The fruit is lovingly cared for by hand and the vines produced their first harvest in 2007, filling just two buckets of grapes… and thanks to their friends making fun of them, the name Two Buckets stuck!

Although the first harvest produced a not so fruitful amount of grapes, Duncan soldiered on! His love for Pinot Noir was too strong and today the little boutique vineyard produces juicy, lush and high quality Pinot Noir grapes. The vines are all Burgundy clones, planted on a north facing slope that looks to the lake. The fruit is treated to long sunny days and cool nights. Two Buckets put their winemaking in the good hands of Maude Wines, winner of New Zealand’s Best Pinot Noir in 2017.

Two Buckets also have incredible accommodation on offer, situated next to the vineyard with views looking out to the mountains that surround Wanaka, it is a truly beautiful and pristine site.

Love, passion and humour are the three things that shaped who Two Buckets are today. They are also the three things Duncan and Barbi believe make the very best Pinot Noir, and how could we disagree?
