About
In Kerikeri lies the award winning Rogue Vine, a five hectare north facing vineyard that overlooks the Bay of Islands and the TePuna Inlet. Rogue Vine is named after the pesky rogue vine that grows in Row 24/Bay 11. This vine is different from the rest and is suspected to be Pinot Blanc, in amongst the Pinot Gris, a sneaky vine! This boutique vineyard also grows Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Syrah and Tempranillo. All of their vines are handled with a natural approach, steering away from harsh chemicals and towards sustainable practices to improve the quality of their fruit.
The Rogue Vine ethos on vineyard management in their own words – “Our guiding beliefs and ideals steer us towards the use of biological teas, sprays and composts to keep and improve soil health, and use soft option sprays, fugal, weed and insect control (natural pyrethrum) where possible.”
Rogue Vine wines are small batch, grown in soils of ancient Kauri forests, hand harvested and made by winemaker Rod McIvor at Marsden Estate. The wine itself reflects the distinct characters of Northland’s terroir – its climate, soil and aspect. Distinct wine and exciting new clones of Pinot Gris mean Rogue Vine are bringing new flavours to New Zealand’s wine industry, making this unique little vineyard impossible to ignore.
