“We stand on the shoulders of giants, having grown from the knowledge and labour of others that came before us. In the pioneering winemaking community of Martinborough, we are now stewards of a viticulture legacy. Our family, mentors and founders of our craft have lifted us up to produce this series of single-vineyard wines” - On Giants’ Shoulders.
On Giants’ Shoulders is a beautiful four hectare vineyard in Martinborough, owned and managed by Braden and Gabrielle Crosby. The husband and wife duo are full time winegrowers, winemakers, parents and wine enthusiasts producing perfumed Pinot Noir, textured whites including Chardonnay and Pinot Gris, and recently a Nouveau, which is a young, fresh, florally expressive Pinot Noir, with acidity and low alcohol (similar to Rosé, but with a twist).
Braden is extremely experienced, having spent 12 years making wine all around the world and luckily for us, decided to settle in New Zealand. Gabrielle is a formally trained photographer and spent 12 years in marketing roles. Following an epiphany, Braden and Gabrielle quit work and went on the search for their dream vineyard which they found in 2015.
Today, Gabe and Braden are highly respected in the industry, and provide collaboration opportunities for other winemakers to make small batches of wine from their vineyard under the On Giants’ Shoulders label. This is a bringing together of winemaking expertise and allows for individual winemaker expressions in their vineyard.
On Giants’ Shoulders produce elegant wines that are truly unique. If you’re in Martinborough, or planning a trip (you should plan a trip…), then you must visit their tasting room. A beautifully designed room where you can taste their wines whilst looking out into their vineyard, and listen to the story behind each wine from the owners themselves – bliss.
