About
The definition of a trailblazer, the epitome of a legend – Jenny Dobson. One of the most respected, outrageously passionate, and humble winemaker’s in New Zealand (in our opinion, the world).
Jenny began her wine journey in France 1979, where she stayed for 16 years. Whilst in France, she spent most of her time in Burgundy and Bordeaux. Note that Jenny began her wine journey when wine was not yet a ‘thing’ in NZ, and the French still thought that women had the power to ‘spoil’ the wine for simply being in the winery (that has now been debunked by the way!). Jenny also spent a year is Western Australia, and in 1996 she finally found herself back in NZ.
After years of making wine for other people, 2015 was the year Jenny started crafting wine under her own label. She was able to lease the first and at the time, only planting of Fiano in New Zealand. Today, Jenny also makes a Merlot blend called ‘Doris’ (named after her formidable & intelligent Grandmother), and a Cabernet Franc Rosé called ‘Patsy’ (Jenny’s favourite Aunt), and a 100% Cabernet Franc called ‘Francie’ (Jenny’s Mother).
“Diversity is the beauty of wine. We drink wine for pleasure. It would be boring to drink even the world’s best wine every day” - Jenny Dobson
Jenny’s winemaking philosophy is to make wine with authenticity, a sense of place, and balance. All of Jenny’s wines are made from hand picked grapes, that are then lovingly handcrafted.
