About
What happens when an ex Partner in an International Firm of Chartered Surveyors and a Doctor of Clinical Psychology from Bristol UK decide to look for a different lifestyle? They fly to Martinborough to start a life in the wine industry, of course! With limited experience in the industry (consumption only…), Michael and Roz made the bold move to delve into the wonderful world of New Zealand wine, and we’re glad they did.
Michael and Roz began looking for vineyard land after arriving in New Zealand in 1996. From here, Michael completed a Diploma in Viticulture while Roz worked on a Diploma in Winemaking. In 1997 they planted a five hectare vineyard, which is the Alexander Vineyard we know today. For the next few years it was all trial and error with a whole lot of help from the friendly Martinborough wine community.
Today, Alexander Vineyard makes award-winning Pinot Noir, Merlot and Chardonnay, all grown in gravel soils to produce intensely flavoured fruit. Their wine is made by hand in their on site winery which you can have a peek into if you visit their cellar door. Open Labour weekend to mid-March, enjoy a tasting hosted by Roz or Michael, and purchase some truly boutique, award-winning wine!
